From the Stewards
Thank you to everyone involved in our Advent and Christmas celebrations,
– for the wide variety of ways in which we anticipated and recalled the message of Christ’s coming, in outreach to preschools and playgroups, at our Christmas fair, with food and fellowship, with the beautiful decoration of the church and especially in our worship.
Revd Catherine Dixon led our Covenant service on 5th January and we reflected upon and discussed the words of the service in the Discussion service that evening. On 19th and 23rd January we hosted services as part of the Octave of Prayer for Christian Unity; it was encouraging to see how well supported they were.
We now move into the season of Lent. Revd Catherine Dixon and David Middleton are running a course entitled “Talking Jesus”, which will consist of six sessions on Tuesday evenings at 7pm from 3rd March. Some members of the church have used the course in their house groups, and this is an opportunity for more of us to take part in it. On Friday 6th March at 1.30pm our church will hold a service for the World Day of Prayer.
On Good Friday, 10th April, there will be a short service at 9.15am where we will complete our Lent liturgy. After this we will be able to join the United Walk of Witness through the city.
On Easter Sunday, 12th April, at 8am there will be a Circuit communion service at Ely, where the bread and wine will be consecrated for Easter Communion services across the Circuit. Our 10.30am morning service will be led by Revd Chris Bishop.
Our Annual Church Meeting takes place on 17th May at 2pm. This will be preceded by a simple lunch in support of Christian Aid. We do hope that you will be able to come to this very important meeting in our church calendar. It gives us a chance to review the past year and to think about where God is leading us. It is also the meeting at which stewards and members of the church council are elected. Please do consider whether you could fulfil one of these roles.
We are most grateful to all of you who support the stewards. We value your comments and welcome your prayers. Thank you for your encouragement.
