Flower Rota.

Many thanks to those who have 'signed up' for the Flower Rota: there are still a good number of empty dates that need filling please. Already this year we have had 3 empty dates ---- no names = no flowers = none to give !
Thank you.

Nakulabye Junior School- Kampala Uganda

As I write, I am on my last visit to Kampala and hopefully (God willing) as is often quoted here, to Nakulabye School. As many of you will remember that through Coffee mornings, Art exhibitions and donations we have helped support this school which is in a slum area of Uganda’s capital city.
It was whilst at an HIV AIDS conference here in Uganda in 2005 that myself and friends from the UK were asked if we could help Nakalabye Junior School by providing porridge each day for the all the children. When we visited the school we found about 400 children were being taught in classes of 70-80 children with the rooms open to the elements. There was no running water on site and rubbish burning on the small playing area.

People in several churches and other charities took up the challenge to help and over the years a large brick built school has been provided making room for 600 children. I have visited it almost yearly since 2005, taking donations from fund raising here at EMC and donations from individual well-wishers.
The headmaster, Moses, who founded the school is always so grateful for the help and interest shown. He also strives to improve the education and wellbeing of his pupils by learning from those who visit and in this way I have also been able to help.

Over the years, our donations have helped to provide clean water, porridge and banana, text books and fees for the poorest children who otherwise would not get an education.
A new school year is just beginning and in a few days I will visit. The donations I have, will this time be used for exercise books, pens and pencils. In previous years we bought a metal cupboard to house stationery to deter rats! Stationery is very important because children who can`t afford it will be sent home.
Our next fundraising is the Coffee Morning on Sat. March 28th.

Your support will be much appreciated.
